I design patterns for knitters that focus on accessories for adults, children, and the home, as well as some garments for adults and children. My designs focus on function over form; texture over color; and comfort over glam.
My mother taught me to knit when I was 10 and we were living overseas. I think she was desperate for a way to occupy my time, as we'd run out of English-language books appropriate to my age. My first project was a pink, white, and blue striped stockinette stitch scarf that rolled on itself like crazy. My second was a cozy for my Swiss army knife... and thus the seeds of design were sown. Of course, it took me about 15 more years before I was really comfortable casting on my own projects (thanks, Mom, for starting all those scarves!), but I took up knitting and designing again in earnest in the mid 2000s and have been going like mad since.
I'm a member of the PhatFiber community of indie spinners, dyers, farmers, and designers. I particularly enjoy working with unique yarns (handspun and handdyed); if you are a yarnie looking for a freelance/contract designer, please take a look at my existing patterns and contact me if you'd like to talk about patterns for your line.
